Nomination to the Benois de la Danse 2024

It is my great honour to share with you the news of my nomination for the Benois 2024 in Choreography for the ballet Giselle, created for the Ballet du Rhin.

I am grateful for this nomination, which is a testament to the great collective work of the dancers, my team, the company and its director, Bruno Bouché, the Symphonic Orchestra of Mulhouse and Sora Elisabeth Cohen, without whom it could not have got to what I envisioned in embarking in this journey.

In this time and place, I recognise the harsh ambivalence of such a nomination and keep in mind its current significance. Nevertheless, it still represents a big milestone in my career and a recognition of my peers for the hard work and dedication I gave to this beautiful production and from the whole team and the dancers invested in this ballet.

As an artist, I thrive when harnessing the humanity and sensitivity of each dancer and people involved, near or far, in a project to find the connection between the stage and the audience.

My belief in the power of art to transcend borders and unite people is not a naive sentiment but a conviction I hold with utmost seriousness. I am saddened by how politics sometimes hinders artists’ desire to create these meaningful human connections.

Nevertheless, I look forward to continuing to find what brings us closer together, artists and audience alike, and hope for a better, peaceful, inclusive, and understanding world.
